NCCHS DRIVER EDUCATION
Course Description:
This course is based on an integrated curriculum of classroom theory and actual "Behind-The-Wheel" experience. We do NOT utilize simulators.
General Information:
All students must pass tests on rules of the road, signs, and vision before qualifying for instruction. Thirty hours of classroom instruction is a graduation requirement for all students.
Class Requirements:
Class participation is extremely important. All homework must be turned in on time, clearly written or printed. Grade reduction will occur for late work. All missed tests must be made up as soon as possible, or other arrangements must be made with your teacher.
Student’s Responsibility:
Each student is expected to bring their textbook, and a pen or pencil to class each and every day. Students are expected to behave as young adults and respect the rights and property of fellow classmates.
Grading Policy:
The grading scale below will be used for tests and school work.
A = 90-100
B = 80-89
C = 70-79
D = 60-69
F = 50-59 Implementing the new grading policy, you cannot receive a grade below 50%
Students will receive points for attendance, class participation, and completion of in-class assignments.
Attendance Note:
Attendance is a key part of the education experience, and a State of Illinois guideline for driver education. Therefore a student is not allowed to miss more than 7 class meetings during a semester. Upon their 8th absence (excused or unexcused) a student MAY be dropped from the program with no credit (NC).
Behind The Wheel (BTW) Requirements
Students will be driving once a week for 17 weeks, during this time they are not allowed to miss any BTW time. If a student does miss a BTW they must see their instructor. State of Illinois guidelines indicate that a student must complete at least 6 hours of BTW with a school instructor, due to this guideline 3 absences, excused or unexcused would allow the student to complete their driving time. Upon their 4th absence the student may be dropped from the BTW phase of driver education.
